Happy Canada Day
Garrett and I had a great Canada Day! We started it off with a pancake breakfast a the Legislative grounds. The weather was gorgeous and the pancakes, actually pretty good!
Next, we spent the afternoon at Fort Edmonton Park. We brought our Swedish friend Erik along with us, so he could experience Canada Day the Canadian way.Unfortunately, a lot of other people decided Fort Edmonton Park was a good idea as well, and we faced a mammoth line to get in the park... ...but it was okay, because it was Canada Day!Fort Edmonton Park is really neat actually. It's a large collection of houses and shops from different eras in Edmonton's past, starting with the fort itself. They have actors dressed and playing character all day, parades with old style cars and clothing, and just tons to see and do. We started at the fort, the outside of which was the Cree camp. We went in the teepee and took a picture looking up.Next we went into the fort.We went inside the large house where we took a picture of Garrett in front of the buffalo head. The next few photos are a few of the sites around the park. They had a homestead farm to visit, including piggies, turkeys and chickens. I loved the piggy so I took a picture of him.The next photo is quite funny. It was in the printing shop window, so it's tough to read but I'll write it out below to help."URGENT
Thousands of Nice girls wanted in the Canadian West
Over 20,000 men are sighing for what they just can't find - WIVES! Shame!
Do not hesitate - Come at once!
If you can't come, send your sisters!
(some stuff i can't read either)
Hurry up Girls and do not miss your chance. Some of you will never get another."
Funny hey?
Here's Erik and I in the hardware store. I'm taking a break on the swings in the shade. It was a really hot day!An old time Mountie sat to take a picture with Garrett and Erik before we retired to the pub in the local hotel.Hotel Selkirk. You can actually stay here for the night if you wanted. That beer really hit the spot after all our time out in the sun. Next we took the street trolley for a tour in style.
And then a carousel ride in style! We bought some tokens to ride this beautiful new carousel during its debut this Canada Day. All of the horses are hand carved and hand painted. A lot of work went into this ride and it shows. We spent the rest of our tokens on some games, including Garrett showing off his strength in the strong man/hammer game (I just don't know what the real name of this game is).Look at him go! What a hunk! He even hit it up quite far - 3/4 of the way, which was better than the other people we saw doing it.
By the end of the day, we were tuckered! After resting for a bit, we headed over to our friends' place to watch the fireworks. Happy Canada Day everyone!

Awesome pictures! It was so gorgeous out that day! You forgot to mention the thrilling game of Mario Party 6 after the fireworks. :) Nothing like video games to end your day... ;)
Happy (belated) Canada Day! It looks like you had so much fun - wish we could have been there to celebrate with you!
Love Amanda
