Bizarre movie

Tonight Bonnie and I rented a movie called 'Mrs. Harris'. I often end up watching wacky/weird movies with Bonnie - for some reason, the combination of the two of us results in choosing weird movies from the rental place. In any case, this one was about Mrs. Jean Harris, who dated this guy called Dr. Howard Tarnower. Loosely based upon a true story, Dr. Howard was the guy who created the Scarsdale diet (from back in the 70's or 80's, I believe). Basically, he treats Jean quite poorly for 14 years, while prescribing her a myriad of drugs to treat her depression, which she becomes addicted to. She is also addicted to him for unknown reasons and would rather die then leave him, despite his numerous mistresses. In the end, during a withdrawal bout, she goes to his house, supposedly to say goodbye before she kills herself. Instead he ends up getting shot and dying, and she is put on trial for his murder. The movie is filmed in a unique format, focussing on her trial with flashback/testimonials from the people around them during their lengthy relationship. The movie was interesting in that the format was unpredictable, however it was fairly slow and a little bit boring at parts. I enjoyed it overall, but probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone. In the end, you aren't really sure whether Howard really was killed accidentally, or whether she had intended to kill him from the get-go.
