Grantchester and The Orchard
On Saturday afternoon, we drove out to a nearby town called Grantchester and had lunch at this lovely little place call The Orchard. It is thus named because you can take your lunch out into the orchard and eat at one of the many tables distributed there. It's famous for having been frequented by some famous poets and authors in the past, the most reknowned (and the only one I can recall offhand) being Sylvia Plath. They have a number of choices for lunch, and I chose a brie and cranberry sandwich and some tea to go with it. They also produce amazing scones, one of which I shared with my Mom. In England, they have this item called clotted cream - sounds disgusting, and actually kind of looks disgusting, but it's basically cream that's just about to become butter, and you put it on your scone. It's the equivalent of cream compared to milk - very rich, but very yummy (we had to keep from our mind any thoughts of calories in these meals). I further topped off my lunch with a chocolate dessert and left that place feeling very, very full. Here is our table:And this was a cool trunk/tree/vine near our table:
