Day 3 - The afternoon
In the morning of day 3, Garrett, Ian and Joelle did a scramble up Mount Bowlen. I stayed down below rather than try to scale the heights with my fear of heights.
In the afternoon, we roped up and strapped on the snowshoes again and wandered down the glacier on the other side of Neil Colgan hut.First we had to descend down a fair bit.We started to see another glacier in the distance, hanging on the mountainside. We headed towards the edge of the glacier to see the view.Looking back towards Garrett, the view was impressive. We quickly reached the edge of where we could safely travelled, so we stopped for a break and some photo ops. Here, Garrett looks like a true mountaineer in front of the glacier. This is the same glacier we saw the top of a few pictures back, but as we neared the edge of the cliff, we were able to see the entire thing. Unfortunately, my camera again bombed out in terms of showing the true blue glacier colour. Here is the whole glacier without Garrett in the way to distract us.This is looking up to our left at the peak of Mount Bowlen. Garrett, Ian and Joelle were waaaaaaay up there earlier in the day. I will be posting those pictures in a separate entry later. Here I am, standing next to the rock cairn in front of Mount Temple. And again, looking off to the right. Our snowshoes:We suited back up and headed back towards the hut.Back at the hut, we relaxed for the evening and played cards, getting our gear ready for the hike out the next morning.
