Maui Day 4
On Tuesday, I went to the conference around 9 and stayed all morning until lunch time. It was boring. Lunch was pretty good. I snuck out in the afternoon (even though I'd been planning on staying all day at the conference) and went back to my hotel, where I sat by the pool for a couple hours. After my fun pool time, I had to return the conference to attend the poster session and stand by my poster. The poster session was a bit of a let down, because very few people came around to see my poster. Plus, supposedly there was some sort of judging going on, but I sure couldn't tell. I was angry the next day when they awarded prizes, because it seemed to me that they didn't even go around to all the posters, so how could they know which ones were best? Anyway, after the poster session, Bindi picked me up and we drove to Lahaina for some dinner at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory!
At first, I was very skeptical of this place, especially because the Forrest Gump movie took place down in the Southern United States and NOT in Maui. I was even more skeptical when we entered the establishment and it was decorated WAY over the top with all sorts of Forrest Gump paraphenalia. The women's bathrooms was labeled "Jenny's". I presume, but don't know for sure, that the men's bathrooms were called "Forrest's". In any case, my skepticism disappeared once our food arrived and I ate some. So yummy! It was really tasty and they put lots of shrimp on each dish, so it was worth the price. The other neat thing about this restaurant was that it was built right on the ocean, and we could look out our window into the water. We saw several fish while we were sitting there, including several puffer fish! They weren't puffed up, though, when we saw them. They were just swimming by in their non-puffed up state.
Here's the fuzzy picture our waitress took of us:And here's one of me being excited about the crazy decor in the restaurant. Note the ping-pong paddle and Bubba Gump hot sauce:Lastly, outside the restaurant, they had a bench to take pictures at, complete with a box of chocolates and the running shoes:(I couldn't get this to face the right way!)
So, it was an interesting experience overall, and probably the most exciting experience of that Tuesday (which says something very sad about Tuesday).
